Leopards get the belt and revenge in winning tourney title

Heading into Saturday’s inaugural Battle for the Belt wrestling tournament, Lugoff-Elgin Middle School head coach Ted Monroe’s mission for his team was two-fold. First, they wanted to win the 16-team event and the other objective was to avenge a loss to Sullivan Middle School, which snapped the Leopards’ 60-match win streak two weeks earlier. Monroe and company accomplished both goals in coming home from York with the championship belt while knocking off Sullivan Middle in the finals, 45-30.
