Murphy captures SCJGA Players Championship

Fresh off her having signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play golf at Auburn University, Kelli Murphy added another tournament title to her long list of accolades last weekend.The Lugoff-Elgin senior fired a 7-under par 65 on Saturday and followed with a 69 on Sunday for a 10-under par to capture the South Carolina Junior Golf Association’s Players Championship in the girls’ 14-18-year-old division. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played over the Hartsville Country Club.Murphy’s blazing start on Saturday included her recording nine birdies to go along with seven pars and a pair of bogeys. On Sunday, Murphy had six birdies, nine pars and three bogeys to cruise to the seven-stroke victory after carding a 65-69—134 total.
