Murphy named to HSSR All-State squad

Lugoff-Elgin senior golfer and Auburn University signee Kelli Murphy was named to the High School Sports Report’s 4A All-State girls’ golf team and was to be honored at Sunday’s banquet held at Seawells on the grounds of the South Carolina State Fair in Columbia.University of South Carolina head cross country coach Andrew Allden served as guest speaker for the afternoon banquet which honored cross country, tennis, golf, volleyball and swim team student-athletes from across the state.In last October’s 4A girls’ state championship tournament, Murphy tied for third with a 69-76—145 total while competing as an individual since Lugoff-Elgin did not field a girls’ golf team.Murphy won three consecutive Columbia City women’s golf championships (2010 through 2012) in addition to numerous other tournament crowns. She was a quarterfinalist in the 2012 United States Golf Association’s Girls’ Junior Championship as well as having earned a berth into and playing in the 2013 USGA Women’s Amateur in Charleston.Murphy is also a two-time Carolina Junior Girls Champion (2011 and 2013), and was the runner-up in 2012. Murphy was named the 2012 Carolinas Golf Association Junior Player of the Year and was named to the 2011 All-Carolinas Team.
