While some in Kershaw County have griped and moaned about the unseasonable spring weather, when you are from Upstate New York and finally see grass on the baseball field well, let Randy Stokes describe the scene at Optimist Field Monday morning.“It was cold and our field had puddles around first base, third base and home plate,” said the Lugoff-Elgin High School baseball coach. “But their kids were out there practicing in short-sleeve shirts and shorts. It was like Christmas morning for those kids.”“Those kids” to whom Stokes was referring were the Olean High School baseball team which is playing in this week’s Kershaw Richland Wooden Bat Spring Break Tournament.
