Rock Hill turns tables on L-E with round 3 win
Demons come up short in 37-36 loss
EVAN MOXIE AND L-E saw their season come to an end in a one-point loss at Rock Hill on Monday.
Just when Lugoff-Elgin seemed to have turned the corner in its third round 4A state wrestling match at Rock Hill, the host Bearcats threw a small roadblock into the Demons’ path. After Wade Branham’s overtime win at 182 pounds and Zach Connell’s pin at 195, L-E had closed to within 22-21 with six matches remaining to be wrestled. But Bearcats’ head coach Cain Beard rolled the dice and bumped his regular 195-pounder, Jonathan Schavey, into the 220-pound match.Schavey was inserted into the heavier weight division in order to take advantage of his quickness. The state’s second-ranked 195-pounder came through with a 3-1 win over Allen Jenerette to get the hosts going again en route to what became a 37-36 win over Evan Moxie’s squad. The sixth-ranked Bearcats, a 37-21 loser to L-E back on Nov. 30, will head to meet Hillcrest tonight for the Upper State crown.
