Rough start leads to a bad ending for Demons in 7-3 loss to RNE
L-ES JAMES LINKLETTER SLIDES safely back into first base, ahead of the tage being applied by RNEs Jason Mohn on this second inning pickoff attempt from Tuesday nights game.
A long Tuesday night for the Lugoff-Elgin baseball team could have been even lengthier, if not worse for the wear. The Demons, who have already been beset by injuries and illness this season, nearly added another player to those lists when starting pitcher Will Dorton was felled by a line drive off his left knee when his third pitch of the night was sent back at him by Richland Northeast leadoff batter Domineke Albert. It was an ominous start to the Region 4-4A opener for both sides, won by the visiting Cavaliers, 7-3, on Lugoff Optimist’s Night at Optimist Field.
