Giving a ranked Spring Valley squad all it wanted and then some, the Lugoff-Elgin girls’ soccer team came out on the short end of a 2-0 decision in a Region 4-4A match played last Thursday at L-E Stadium. The two sides headed into the break locked in a 0-0 stalemate before the visiting Lady Vikings scored the game-winner with about 18 and one-half minutes left in the pairing. The goal served as a wake-up call for the Lady Demons who, then, took the match to the guests.“We had a couple of good looks and just missed tying the game a few times,” said first-year L-E head coach Carl Spoto. “Then, we got caught cheating up to try to tie and gave up a crucial corner kick when the second goal was surrendered.“It was brilliant game by our girls.”Freshman Dena Stanley was again outstanding ion the goal for the Lady Demons who entered spring break with a 5-8 overall record and a 2-4 mark in conference play.
