Having won at both first and second singles, all Edward Rickwood and the Lugoff-Elgin boys’ tennis team wanted in Tuesday’s match at Spring Valley was for the contest to go to first doubles. In the end, however, the hosts Vikings used a win in the third set tie-breaker at second doubles to hold off the visiting Demons, 4-2, in the Region 4-4A opener for both sides.“If we could have gotten that third win,” Rickwood said of the match, “we felt pretty good about our chances with our number one doubles team. Everyone watched eagerly as our number two doubles lost in a close third set tie-break.”L-E’s two victories came at the top of the ladder with Hunter Horton leading SV’s Blake McGuirt, 4-3, before the Vikings’ first singles player retired due to an ankle injury. Hunter Johnson gave the guests their second win of the afternoon as he swept past Arif Siddiqi, 7-5 and 4-6.The Vikings would take the other four pairings as Myles Taste pinned a pair of 6-1 losses on Nathan Tyson in third singles while Noah Guyton downed Justin Tillman, 6-1, 6-0, in fourth singles.
