Auburn rising sophomore golfer and 2014 Lugoff-Elgin High School graduate Kelli Murphy was one of nine players to advance from the U.S. Women’s Amateur sectional qualifier Tuesday in Lexington, N.C. Murphy finished fourth out of 81 competitors in the 18-hole qualifier at Sapona Ridge Country Club (par 71, 6,323 yards). She shot a 2-over-par 73 that included 16 pars and just two bogeys. This will be Murphy’s second time playing in the U.S. Women’s Amateur; she qualified and participated in the 2013 event, prior to her senior year at L-E. That year’s event was played in Charleston.
