Buford downed North Central, 53-32, in last Saturday’s third place game in the girls’ portion of the Comporium Classic basketball tournament played at Andrew Jackson High School in Kershaw.
North Central lost to host AJ in Friday’s opening round while Buford fell to Parkwood (N.C.) in its opening night contest.
BHS, up 31-18 at the half, held a 38-26 lead with a period to play and finished strong with a 15-6 effort to take the 21-point win over Mitch Lowder’s Lady Knights.
Morgan Bass scored 17 to lead North Central, giving her 31 points in the two games en route to earning all-tourney honors.
“We’ve seen North Central three times this season and each time they’ve improved,” BHS coach T.J. Armbrust said.
The Lady Knights return to Kershaw on Tuesday, Jan. 7 in their final non-region game in a 6 p.m. game followed by the boys’ conttest between the two rivals.
NC kicks off Region 3-AA action with a trip to Columbia to meet Keenan on Friday, Jan. 10.
