Cheraw upends Knights in title game

Less than 24 hours after an exhausting, come-from-behind overtime win over Westminster-Catawba, the North Central boys’ basketball team was doubled up by Cheraw, 68-34, in Friday’s championship game of the May Plant Credit Union Carolina Classic played at The Castle in Boonetown.The setback dropped the Knights to 4-6 in the non-conference portion of the season. NC will host Keene in Friday’s Region 3-AA opener.The Knights trailed, 17-10, after the first quarter and were on the short end of a 31-19 score at halftime.The Braves, which beat McBee by 20 points on Thursday, used a 14-6 run in the third quarter to put this one away at 45-25 heading into the final stanza.Senior point guard Brady Brister led the way for Andy Johnson’s troops with seven points while Jeremy Fowler and Omar Johnson were next with six points each. Kawan Hough was next with five for the tourney hosts.
