Griffins have nothing to lose while NC can move up on playoff ladder tonight

Nothing to win. Nothing to lose.Such is the plight of Fairfield Central which tonight, hosts North Central in the final regular season game of the year. The Griffins have already sewn up the Region 3-AA championship and the top seed in the class AA Division I Upper State playoffs. The visiting Knights, meanwhile, could greatly enhance their seed in the AA Upper State Division II playoffs with a win tonight; not to mention cementing a first round home game against an 11th or 12th seed.Given that set of circumstances, NC head coach Louis Clyburn offered his counterpart, FC head coach Demetrius Davis, a proposition when the two friends and former college assistant coaches met to exchange film last weekend.“I talked to Coach Davis and told him that he’s the number one seed in the Upper State (Division I) playoffs and he’s the region champion, regardless of what happens on Friday against us,” Clyburn said, tongue planted firmly inside his cheek.“I told him it’s like one of those final NFL pre-season games and he shouldn’t play any of his starters and take a chance on them getting injured.”What squashed even the briefest thought about going in that direction is that this is the final regular season home game for Fairfield Central.
