Knights dismantle McBee, advance to tourney finale
NC CENTER KAWAN HOUGH gets inside of McBees Joseph Outen for two of his 16 points from Thursday nights game at The Castle.
When a marginal movie suddenly gets interesting, nobody leaves their seats and heads for the exits.Chad Dixon is no different. When McBee turned what was once a 10-point second quarter deficit into a 37-36 lead thanks to opening the second half on a 10-3 run, the North Central coach let the action continue and allowed his team work their way out of the mess in which they had become involved. Not panicking proved to be the right thing to do as the host Knights advanced to the championship game of the Ahlstrom Nonwovens/MPCU Carolina Classic with a 76-48 pounding of the their fellow Region 3-A rival on Thursday night inside The Castle. The 76 points represents the high-water mark of the season for North Central. The Panthers (1-6) would make one more mini-run at NC, trailing 46-42 following a Rasheed Reed layin at the 2:22 mark of the third quarter. From that point, it was all Knights as the host team outscored McBee by a 32-6 count over the final eight minutes and 10 seconds of the game. In fact, NC (6-4) opened the fourth quarter on a 17-0 run to build its 10-point spread into a 71-44 bulge. The patience which Dixon showed in the opening minutes of the third quarter paid off handsomely later in the contest.“I was a little concerned because we were playing real sloppy and real lackadaisical, at times,” Dixon said.
