Proving that even the basketball gods get time off for the holidays, North Central was able to put aside the ghosts of close games past for, at least, one night. After having lost leads and, eventually, the game in pre-Christmas nail-biters to Buford and Lugoff-Elgin, the Knights were able to get a victory of that variety for themselves in a 70-69 overtime win against Westminster-Catawba on Thursday night at The Castle. The contest was the nightcap of first round action in the May Plant Credit Union Carolina Classic in Boonetown. The Knights took on Cheraw, a 72-52 winner over McBee, in Friday’s championship contest. For the hosts, this win was a sweet bit of redemption for a team which had lost a pair of one-point games to Buford and Lugoff-Elgin in mid-December.
