Knights roll past RNE and AJ

North Central tuned up for this weekend’s Mid-Carolina Credit Union Holiday Classic wrestling tournament at Lugoff-Elgin with a pair of wins on Wednesday night.
Hosting 4A Richland Northeast and rival Andrew Jackson in a tri-match held in Boonetown, the hosts Knights drubbed RNE, 72-6, before taking down AJ, 67-11
In the match with the Cavaliers, the hosts won eight of the 14 matches by pin with those coming from Mason Gomez at 120 pounds, Austin Thompson (132), Zach Anderson (145), Malaquan Belton (160), Justin Witmore (170), Deaunte Samuel (182), Christian Gomez (195) and David Martin (220).
The Knights’ 138-pounder, Robert Hardin won by a 13-4 major decision while Tyler Small wrestled his way to a 9-8 victory at 152 pounds.
Hunter Covington (106), Chris Sims (113) and heavyweight Matt Sowell each won via forfeit to round out the scoring.
Against the rival Volunteers, the Knights were the recipients of eight forfeits from AJ.
Witmore and Sowell each recorded pins while Hardin won an 11-4 decision at 138 with Small taking an 11-2 decision victory at 152.
Picking up the forfeits were Covington, Sims, Mason Gomez, Ricky Hinson (126), Belton, Samuel, Christian Gomez and Martin.
