It’s hard to explain to a pitcher why you are lifting him in the middle of a game in which he has surrendered just three hits, has not allowed an earned run and struck out four batters in four innings of work in a 2-1 ballgame. It would have been tougher for North Central coach Robbie Cash not to make the move he made to start the fifth inning. For the second straight game, the Knights sent lefty Broderick Gaither to the mound fully intending for him to keep his team in the game before yielding to Grayson King. And, for the second time in as many games, King plowed through an opposing offense, in order, to put the finishing touches on an NC victory.Tuesday night, King entered the game in relief of Gaither to start the top of the fifth with the hosts trailing Lewisville, 2-1. Nine LHS batters --- and outs --- and six NC runs later, King and the Knights had a 7-2 victory and are in the midst of tracking down defending state champion and Region 3-A-leading Chesterfield.Using the same pitching strategy as he did in last Friday’s 9-1 win at Great Falls, Cash pushed the right buttons on this night.
