North Central outscored visiting McBee, 16-12, in overtime to record a 65-61 win over the Panthers in a Tuesday night game played at The Castle in Boonetown.
Last Friday night, NC secured its first victory in downing McBee, 61-51.
The Knights (2-1) used a 16-10 second quarter run to break a 13-13 first quarter tie and carry a 29-23 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The visitors outscored NC, 10-5, to trail 34-33 before the two sides were deadlocked at 49-49 after regulation.
“We had some costly turnovers that really hurt us in the fourth quarter,” said NC head coach Andy Johnson. “I thought that we regrouped and make some key free throws in final minute of the game.”
The Knights placed four players in double figures with Omar Johnson leading the way with 14 points followed by 13 from Banyon Sullivan. Kawan Hough had an 11-point, 10-rebound game while William Jenkins also scored 11 points to go along with six rebounds.
Lady Knights fall to MHS: The North Central girls slipped to 0-3 on the season with a 46-31 loss to visiting McBee.
Mitch Lowder’s charges trailed 12-6 after the first quarter and were on the short end of a 20-16 score at halftime. The Lady Panthers used a 16-6 third quarter surge to carry a 36-22 lead into the final stanza.
“It was a good ballgame,” Lowder said. “We were behind 20-16 at the half and went cold during the third quarter, only scoring six points. That proved to be the difference in the game.”
Morgan Bass led the Lady Knights with 13 points while Shekee Drakeford added seven to go with a team-best nine rebounds. Abigail DuRant had a six-point, eight-rebound contest for NC.
