Lady Knights are 'Best in the Nest'

After having started Saturday’s Best in the Nest Tournament with a first-set loss to host Buford in the day’s first match, the North Central volleyball team closed the event by winning their next eight sets to take home the event championship.It was the second tourney title for the state’s fifth-ranked class AA program which won their own Carolina Classic which was played last month.“I was proud of our effort the entire day,” said NC head coach Andy Johnson. “We have started to play much more consistent and hopefully, we can carry this into the remainder of our season.”After losing the first set of the day to Buford, 25-18, NC took the match by winning the second and third sets, 25-12 and 25-20. Next up was a 25-19, 25-21 sweep over 4A Lancaster which was followed by a 25-20, 25-21 win over 3A Hartsville.In the fourth match, the Lady Knights breezed past former and future conference foe Indian Land, winning in two, 25-7 and 25-9.That set up a rematch with the host team in the finals and NC made quick work of the Lady Yellow Jackets in a 25-15 and 25-17 victory.Freshman setter Logan Coates reached triple digits on the day as she dealt 100 assists to go along with 23 digs and four service aces.Along the net, junior Ambi Wood collected 40 kills to go with eight blocks, 14 digs and a pair of aces.
