Lady Knights chop down 4A, 3A foes to stay perfect

Having picked on and beaten schools their own size, the North Central volleyball team stepped up in class on Monday. The results, however, were the same as they have been throughout this season.
Traveling to Florence to take on 4A hostesses West Florence in a tri-match which included AAA Hartsville, the Lady Knights did not skip a beat in leaving the Pee Dee with a pair of 2-0 sweeps.
Andy Johnson’s charges knocked off Hartsville, 25-22 and 25-13, before edging West Florence by a pair of identical 26-24 scores.
The two wins kept NC’s record perfect through 12 regular season dual matches heading into last night’s Region 4-AA match with Chesterfield.
Senior Madeline Pate enjoyed a big night both along the net and on the back row as she had 17 kills to go along with 23 digs. She added two aces and an assist for good measure. Erin Humphries, an senior outside hitter, had a double-double with 16 kills to go along with 17 digs and two service aces.
Senior middle hitter Ambi Wood led the way at the net as she knocked down a match-best 18 kills while adding a block and eight digs. Sophomore setter Logan Coates had a whopping 43 assists in four sets while adding 10 digs and a pair of kills. Sophomore Kelsie Gardner came up with 21 digs and an assist.
