Lady Knights drop Keenan in 3-AA opener

It used to be that Keenan was among the queens of the court when it came to Region 3-AA volleyball.Well, don’t look now, but there is someone new staking claim to the throne.After five consecutive Region 3-A titles, North Central opened its case for being more than just a bystander in 3-AA play as the Lady Knights ripped past Keenan in three games to open up the conference schedule last Thursday night.Andy Johnson’s troops made quick work of the Raiders, winning 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18 to improve to 6-0 on the season.Ashley Rogers and Ambi Wood led a dominant NC net attack with nine kills each. Madeline Pate was next with eight kills while Kaleigh Davis and Erin Humphries had five and four kills, respectively.After traveling to meet rival Pelion on Tuesday, the Lady Knights will host Eau Claire on Thursday in a 6:45 p.m. start inside The Castle.A dozen teams to compete for Carolina Challenge crown: The seventh annual Carolina Challenge Volleyball Tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22 inside The Castle at North Central High School.This is the first major volleyball tournament ever held at North Central and the event has become one of the largest varsity girls volleyball tournaments held in the area. The 12-team tournament is expected to include, approximately, 180 volleyball players from across the region.The intent of the tournament is to have a competitive field which showcases local teams from surrounding counties.
