After struggling on offense in a season-opening loss to Buford, the North Central girls found what it was searching for on that end of the floor, only to come up short in a 38-31 loss to McBee last Thursday.
The Lady Knights led, 9-6, after the first quarter only to see the Lady Panthers go on an 8-0 run to lead at halftime, 16-14. MHS carried a 26-22 lead into the final quarter before pulling out the seven-point victory thanks to scoring the game’s final four points.”
“We played good defense all night, but we did not shoot well,” said NC head coach Mitch Lowder. “We were 2-of-9 from the free throw line, which proved to be the difference. But our team is improving.”
Morgan Bass led the way for the Lady Knights with 19 points, including knocking down four 3-point baskets. Takeisha Joe added six while freshman point guard Taylor Robinson moved into the starting lineup and had five points.
Freshman center Abigail DuRant led NC in rebounding for the second straight game with 13 caroms. Shekee Drakeford made her season debut and pulled down 11 rebounds as Lowder anticipates her being a force under the boards as well as on the perimeter.
