Fighting to stay in the match, North Central rallied from a 15-4 deficit in the fourth set of Tuesday’s pairing with rival Andrew Jackson to pull out a 25-22 victory to even the match at two sets apiece.
The visiting Lady Knights took that momentum into the fifth set tie-breaker and left Kershaw with a 3-2 win after taking the fifth set, 15-12.
AJ opened the match by winning the opener, 25-17, only to see Andy Johnson charges battle back to even things by winning the second set, 26-24. The Lady Volunteers went up, 2-1, with a 25-22 victory in the third set and looked to be on their way to the match win in grabbing the 15-4 lead in the fourth set. NC, however, dug in and was able to take the lead for the first time at 23-22 before closing the set out and forcing the fifth and deciding set.
The victory was the second in a row for North Central which improved to 2-1 in Region 4-AA action and 4-3 overall heading into Thursday’s home conference pairing with Indian Land.
