Cheraw proved to be a mere bump in the road for North Central as the Lady Knights crushed visiting Braves in three sets, 25-7, 25-16 and 25-18, on Tuesday night in a Region 4-AA volleyball match played inside The Castle in Boonetown.
With the sweep, Andy Johnson’s charges stayed unbeaten through eight regular season matches and perfect in five conference parings heading into Thursday’s 4-AA contest with Central.
Sophomore defensive specialist Logan Coates doled out 33 assists to go with seven digs, two kills and a service ace in the rout. Senior hitters Ambi Wood and Erin Humphries had 11 and 10 kills, respectively, with Wood adding four digs while Humphries had four digs and an ace. Junior middle hitter Gracen Kerr had an eight-kill night.
Senior outside hitter Madeline Pate had six kills, six digs, a block and an ace while sophomore Kelsie Gardner had 12 digs with three aces.
Carolina Challenge on deck: North Central will play host to 11 visiting varsity volleyball teams in Saturday’s ninth annual Carolina Challenge on Saturday in Boonetown.
Joining the host Lady Knights for the one-day event will be Andrew Jackson, Buford, Crestwood, Indian Land, Chesterfield, Wilson Hall, Lancaster, Hartsville, Robert E. Lee Academy, Gilbert and Westminster-Catawba.
Pool play begins at 8:45 a.m. with the single-elimination tournament starting at 1 p.m. and the championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Admission is $5.
