North Central tuned up for Saturday’s Carolina Challenge volleyball tournament by breezing past Cheraw in three sets on Tuesday night in Chesterfield County.
The Lady Knights rolled to a 25-7 victory in the first set before Andy Johnson’s troops won the second and third sets by the scores of 25-14 and 25-11, respectively.
With the victory, the Lady Knights improved to 4-1 in Region 4-AA action and 6-3 overall heading into Thursday’s home conference match with Central.
Carolina Challenge on deck: North Central will defend its 2014 title when the Lady Knights welcome 11 visiting varsity volleyball teams in Saturday’s 10th annual Carolina Challenge on Saturday in Boonetown.
The event, which will include some 180 players, is one of the largest varsity volleyball tournaments in the area.
Joining host North Central on Saturday will be Lancaster, Buford, Indian Land, Chesterfield, Westminster-Catawba, Wilson Hall, Hartsville, West Florence, Thomas Sumter, Robert E. Lee Academy and Gilbert.
“The intent of this tournament is to have a competitive field that showcases our local teams from area counties,” said NC head coach Andy Johnson.
All teams will play in pool play beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and continue until 1 p.m. The single elimination tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with the championship game scheduled for 5 p.m. Admission is $5.
All matches will be played at North Central High School. Trophies will be presented to the first and second place teams and an all-tournament team will be selected at the conclusion of the event.
