Lady Knights upset by Chesterfield, 3-1
NCS DESTINEE LOGAN SENDS a shot back to Chesterfield in game one of Wednesdays AA playoff match.
Of all the times for an injury to strike, this was the worst. With sophomore hitter Erin Humphries watching from the bench in jeans and her number 9 jersey, North Central was knocked from the AA Upper State volleyball tournament by former conference nemesis Chesterfield in four games on Wednesday night at The Castle in Boonetown. The loss capped a 16-2 season for the Lady Knights who came into the week ranked third in the latest AA state poll and had scored a pair of 3-1 victories over the visiting Lady Rams to open the regular season. On this night, Chesterfield repaid the favor, in spades losing the opener, 25-12, before storming back to win games two and three by identical 25-23 scores before closing this one out with a 25-17 victory in game four. But this was hardly the same NC team which, for several weeks in the regular season, topped the AA charts. Without Humphries, a recently named AA All-State selection, Andy Johnson’s charges lost one of, if not their best, hitter.
