NC SOPHOMORE HUNTER WYANT threw and ran for his first varsity touchdowns in the Knights 48-0 win over Whitmire on Friday night.
It has been a long time between shutouts for the North Central High football team.On Friday, after a span of more than five-plus seasons and 60 games, the Knight defense posted a goose egg in a 48-0 blitzing at Whitmire while handing the hosts their 26th consecutive loss.On this night, though, adding to the Wolverines’ misery took a back seat to getting back into the win column --- and recording a shutout in the process --- for Louis Clyburn’s troops, which evened their season record to 1-1 heading into Friday’s home game with Camden Military Academy.“It’s been a long time since North Central has shut anybody out,” Clyburn said before being told the last time such an event took place was in week three of the 2006 season when the Knights threw a 21-0 blanking at Cardinal Newman.“Our defense was unbelievable,” he added. “Our kids played hard and they were aggressive; they were flying to the ball and they were gang-tackling. It was refreshing to see them play like that.”While the NC defense, which limited the hosts to 38 total yards and minus (-7) seven rushing the football, garnered the headlines on this night, a sidebar to the story was the running of Tristan McCathern.
