NC cheerleaders earn berth in state championship

Three years after starting a competitive cheerleading team, North Central High School is headed to the AA Competitive Cheer State finals.The event, which is sanctioned by the South Carolina High School League, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville.North Central, which won the AA division at the Silver Fox Invitational at Dutch Fork High School earlier this year, earned a berth in the state championship by finishing fourth in the AA Lower State Championship which was held last Thursday night at Lower Richland High School.Head coach Chelsea Sutusky’s squad finished with 213 points, trailing only champion Waccamaw (250 points), Aynor (235) and Buford (229). The top nine teams, of the 12 which competed, earned a spot in Saturday’s event in Greenville.“I am extremely proud of my girls,” said Sutusky, now in her third year as the NC head coach. “They executed a perfect performance (Thursday) night, and I am proud to represent Kershaw County at the state finals.”The NC cheer squad includes a quartet of seniors in Murshay Stover, Aaliyah White, Megan Gainey and Gloria Tate.
