While it was hardly an artistic success, North Central stayed atop the Region 3-AA softball standings with a 31-21 win over visiting Eau Claire in a game played last Friday night in Boonetown. The win came one night after the Lady Knights fell to Buford, 14-1, in a non-conference contest.“In both games, we came out flat and gave up way to many runs to be considered a good team,” said NC head coach Mike Grigsby. “However, in Friday’s region game, we broke out of the funk and, with a little help from Eau Claire, came roaring back to once again show our fans just what kind of team we could be when we play like they can with confidence and determination to win.”NC improved to 2-0 in 3-AA play with Friday’s come-from-behind effort in which the host team trailed, 11-3, after two innings with the Shamrocks opening the game with a nine-run first inning before tacking on a pair in the second. The slow start had Grigsby thinking that his team might be headed for a repeat of the night before.Things changed for the better, for the Lady Knights, in the third as they scored nine times.
