NC helps playoff stock by trumping Caps, 33-28
GRAYSON KING THREW FOR 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns in helping North Central to a 33-28 win over Columbia on Friday night.
Early last week, North Central head coach Louis Clyburn was feeling pretty good about his team’s ability to host a first round state playoff game with a victory in either of the Knights’ final two regular season games. That looked to be a tall order starting with Friday’s visit from a red-hot Columbia squad followed by a trip to Fairfield Central.Part one of the equation was filled out when NC started and finished quickly to take a 33-28 win over the Capitals to give the Knights a 5-4 record and a 2-2 mark in Region 3-AA. One would have thought that the Knights could cancel the plans for a bus to take them on the road to the Nov. 3 first round playoff contest. That, however, is a move which will have to be kept on hold for, at least, a few more days.On a night in which North Central ended Columbia’s two-game streak of routs, some other AA entries which NC was and is battling for playoff seedings came through with wins. That left Clyburn wondering where his team’s first destination for the post-season will be.“It does help us,” said the fourth-year NC boss after Friday’s win, “but it’s still so hard to speculate on what will happen.“Landrum lost (on Friday) which should help us.
