North Central will defend its 2014 title when the Lady Knights welcome 11 visiting varsity volleyball teams into Saturday’s 10th annual Carolina Challenge in Boonetown.

The event, which will include some 180 players, is one of the largest varsity volleyball tournaments in the area.

Joining host North Central on Saturday for the one-day tournament will be Lancaster, Buford, Indian Land, Chesterfield, Westminster-Catawba, Wilson Hall, Hartsville, West Florence, Thomas Sumter, Robert E. Lee Academy and Gilbert.

“The intent of this tournament is to have a competitive field that showcases our local teams from area counties,” said NC head coach Andy Johnson.

All teams will compete in pool play beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and continue until 1 p.m.  The single elimination tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with the championship match scheduled for 5 p.m.

All matches will be played at North Central High School. Trophies will be presented to the first and second place teams and an all-tournament team will be selected at the conclusion of the event.
