This was not the Cardinal Newman team which North Central and head football coach Louis Clyburn signed up to play last winter.Bearing little resemblance to the Cardinal squad which had won twice in its last 39 games, the visitors from Columbia jumped to a 21-0, second quarter lead and kept their foot on the accelerator in a 49-14 win over the Knights on Saturday morning in Boonetown. It was the season opener for both teams and made a winner of first-year CN head coach Brannon Tidwell, a former assistant coach at Mississippi State.“When we scheduled this game with Cardinal Newman,” Clyburn said, “obviously, we didn’t know that they were going to change coaches. They have 12 to 13 players over there who are pretty doggone good.
