Andrew Jackson jumped to a 4-0 lead after three and a half innings and would later add to that advantage in a 7-1 win over host North Central in a Region 4-AA baseball game played Wednesday night in Boonetown.
The Knights fell to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Volunteers scored an unearned run off NC starter Chase Stephens in the top of the first before scoring two more runs in the second and another in the top of the fourth.
North Central scored its only run of the night in the bottom half of the fourth with two outs as Stephens sent a single into right field before being lifted for pinch-runner Jay Parks who would score on a base hit from John Bowers as the hosts closed the gap to 4-1.
AJ added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to put this game out of reach.
Stephens was the first of three pitchers sent to the mound by Knights’ head coach Robbie Cash. John Bowers worked the third through fifth innings while Tyler Bowers came on in the sixth and finished the game.
Stephens struck out five batters while allowing four hits in two innings while John Bowers allowed four hits while fanning two in three frames. Tyler Bowers, who was coming off an 11-strikeout effort in a 3-1 win over Chesterfield two nights earlier, struck out three while not surrendering a single.
Kipp Rollings picked up the win for the guests as he went six innings and allowed both NC hits while fanning 13 batters.
Stephens and John Bowers had a single each for the Knights who will be at home to take on Indian Land tonight at 7 p.m.
