There have been days when, long after the North Central football team has come off the practice field, that the lights inside the old gymnasium at the school were still burning. No, it was not basketball players getting in some pre-season practice. Nor, was it the volleyball team preparing for an upcoming match. On a padded surface which covers part of the hardwood floor, practices the North Central Competitive Cheerleading Team. And, long after the shoulder pads, helmets and the volleyball nets have been packed away for another year, the old Castle in Boonetown is alive with the sounds of a dozen young ladies preparing for Saturday’s AA state championship competitive cheerleading competition. The one-day event, to be held at the 15,000-plus seat Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, will host all four state championships in the annual post-season tournament conducted by the South Carolina High School League.
