In those old-time Westerns, the Calvary always waited until the end of the movie to come in and save those in distress.North Central’s version of the rescuers came in much earlier. With most of his starters benched --- for discipline reasons --- to open Friday’s game against visiting Eau Claire, NC head coach Andy Johnson watched as the guests jumped to an 11-0 lead in the first two minutes of play. A time out, the insertion of the regulars into the game and, by the final minute of the first half, the Knights were in front for keeps in what turned out to be a 60-49 victory over the struggling Shamrocks. Not wanting to get into what brought about the disciplinary action, Johnson refused to use the early game benching of his starters as a reason for Eau Claire’s quick beginning to this Region 3-AA contest. Instead, he said the Knights’ problems stemmed from complacency.“It comes back to effort,” he said.
