Speaking to no one person in particular, Post 17 American Legion baseball coach Craig Smith wondered aloud where his team, which ran roughshod over Sumter and Florence in the pre-season, had gone.That squad bore little or no resemblance to the one which dropped a 16-3 decision to visiting West Columbia at American Legion Park.While Florence and Sumter are sprinting away from their distant pursuers in Leagues II and III, respectively, Post 17 is still searching for its initial win of a League IV campaign which has eight games left to go in its 16-game regular season.“We look a lot different than we did in those two games against Florence and Sumter,” Smith said. “We hit the ball around those two games. They ran their (best pitchers) out there and we hit them around.
