Record numbers expected for Saturday's Springdale at Sunset 5K

Registration is open for runners and walkers for the 5th Annual Springdale at Sunset 5K Run, 1-lap walk and a kids’ fun run --- of about one mile --- to be held on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Springdale Race Course in Camden.The event, which benefits the United Way of Kershaw County, will take to the course at 6:45 p.m.The entry fee is $30 if registering through Aug. 16 and $35 the day of the race.Some 300 participants took part in the event last year and organizers expect upwards of 500 to turn out on Saturday.Winners will receive awards in the following categories: All finishers who beat the pace horse, top three overall men and women, top three Masters men and women and top three male and female finishers in the under 14, 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69 and 70 + age groups.Participants are invited to include the whole family or to bring their dogs along for the walk. Spectators can bring their chairs or stand and watch from the grandstand, where the entire course is visible. Live music will entertain spectators and runners throughout the event.
