Carolina Family Karate wins 26 medals at AAU nationals
TEAM MEMBERS FROM Carolina Family Karate in Lugoff continued their winning ways with their performance at the AAU Karate Championships in Raleigh. The next stop for the team will be at the Junior Olympics to be held in Virginia in August.
Carolina Family Karate in Lugoff sent 19 students to the National AAU Karate Championships in Raleigh earlier this month and the team returned home with 26 medals which included performance in the disciplines of Kobudo (improvised farming tools), Kata (sequential defensive moves) and Kumite (sparring). The haul for the local entry included six gold medals along with nine silver and 11 bronze medals. The tournament drew nearly 1,800 competitors from throughout the United States as well as two foreign countries who packed the Raleigh Convention Center for the event.
