County sends 10 athletes into state championships

Led by seven qualifiers from Camden High School, there will be 10 Kershaw County athletes taking part in this weekend’s South Carolina High School League State Track and Field Championships.The two-day championships begin Friday night at Lower Richland High School in Columbia and continues throughout the day Saturday with events in all four state classifications.Camden qualified its seven athletes in five different events at Saturday’s AAA state qualifying meet, also held at Lower Richland. Morgan Wilson was the lone Lady Bulldog qualifier and will take part in the pole vault which is scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. start on Friday. She cleared the bar at 8-6 Saturday.On Saturday, CHS’ Jordan Sumpter will run in the 400-meter race (10:30 a.m.) while teammate Cedric Cook will run in the 200-meter dash (11:35 a.m.) Sumpter ran a 50.58 last weekend and Cook a 22.61, respectively..Both Bulldog sprint relay teams will compete for state titles on Saturday.
