County wrestlers vying for spots in state championships

Lugoff-Elgin will send one wrestler from each of the 14 weight divisions into the two-day 4A Upper State wrestling championships which open tonight at Laurens High School.Eight Demons will go in as Region 4-4A champions including Brandon Noel (106 pounds), Chris Jackson (120), Andrew Mills (138), Kahlil Cooke (138), Harrison Kruger (152), Corey Edenfield (160), Zach Connell (182) and Allen Jenerette (220).Other entrants for head coach Evan Moxie’s squad include Joey Counts (heavyweight), Johnny Murphy (126), Wade Branham (195), Dennys Colon (132), Wes Wagner (152) and Seth White (170).North Central head coach Britt Gardner will carry seven wrestlers to Hanahan High School tonight for the A-AA Lower State championships which continue on Saturday.The Knights will have Tyler Small at 120 pounds and he will be joined by teammates Brandon Small (126), Coleman Roberts (152), Austen Lewis (160), Bailey Wooten (170), Daniel Witmore (195) and Jonathan Ardis (220).Head coach Joey Hendrix and the Camden High wrestling team will compete in the AAA Lower State qualifier which opens today and continues on Saturday at North Myrtle Beach High School. The top four finishers from each division in each classification will advance into the South Carolina High School League state championship which will be held next weekend at the Anderson Civic Center.
