Demons, Knights take to mats Saturday to begin the post-season

Lugoff-Elgin will host Saturday’s first two rounds of the state class 4A wrestling tournament inside the Demons Den.L-E, the Region 4-4A champion, will take on Spartanburg, the fourth-place finisher from Region 3 in the 11 a.m. first round pairing. On the other match, Dorman, the Region 2 runner-up, will face Woodmont, the third-place finisher from Region 1.After a 30-minute break following the completion of the final bout, the two winners will square off for the right to advance into next Monday’s third round of the state duals event.Last year, these same four teams convened at L-E in the opening rounds of the tournament and the Demons disposed of Spartanburg, 74-0, before defeating Dorman, 39-27, in the afternoon contest.L-E would go on to defeat Rock Hill before losing in the 4A Upper State championship to eventual state champion Hillcrest, 30-22.Should form hold, Rock Hill, the Region 3-4A champion will host the third round next Monday night. And, should Hillcrest, the Region 2-4A champion, win two on Saturday and again on Monday, it would host the Upper State title match next Wednesday night in Simpsonville.Knights head to B-E: Due to a mix-up, North Central’s wrestling team will head to Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Saturday for the eight-team, Lower State class A duals.It was erroneously reported that the Knights would be going to Ninety-Six, to compete in the Upstate tournament.
