KC all-star squads go 1-3 on day one

J.B. Brown had one heck of a day in one-third of a game.Brown, the sixth batter in the Jefferson order, clubbed a pair of go-ahead home runs in Thursday’s opening round Sub A -District 5 Dixie Youth All-Star Tournament game with Kershaw County National.In the bottom of the fourth, Brown unloaded a three-run home run to give Jefferson a 5-3 lead. Showing a flair for the dramatic, two innings later, the right-handed batter delivered a two-run, two-strike, two-run walk-off blast to give the visitors from Chesterfield County a 7-6 win.Brown’s five RBI afternoon propelled Jefferson into Friday’s winners’ bracket game while the Nationals were left to stave off elimination in the double-elimination tournament.The National squad was sitting in the catbird’s seat with two gone in the final inning of play after having scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth.After Owen Newman was erased from the base paths following a leadoff double to open the sixth, Andrew Leaird found himself on first base with one out after getting aboard on a fielders’ choice. Leaird took second on a wild pitch before moving to third base on another wild pitch.
