A not-so-funny thing happened to KC West in a game which had all the earmarks of being a blowout after the first three innings of Monday’s opening game of the Sub-District A Dixie Youth All-Star tournament. After the West Wateree-based West squad opened up and held a 7-0 lead into the fifth frame, the Nationals chopped a run off the lead in the fifth before scoring four times in a top of the sixth, in which the visitors brought the tying run to the plate. The two-run victory sent KC West into Tuesday’s winners’ bracket pairing with KC Northern. KC National squared off with Bishopville in an elimination contest. In addition to the Nats’ late-game uprising, the story of the hot afternoon at Camden’s Woodward Park was the bat of McKenzie Barrineau. The West first baseman went 3-for-3 on the day with a booming 3-run blast in the bottom of the first.
