L-Es Hannah brings home 182-pound title
NCs Witmore second at 195 pounds
JERELLE HANNAH MADE the best out of his one season at Lugoff-Elgin as the senior won the 4A state 182-pound championship.
After finishing fourth in the 4A Lower State individual wrestling championships, Jerelle Hannah gave himself a hefty work load as he took to the mat at the Civic Center of Anderson for last weekend’s South Carolina High School League state championship.Hannah, a Lugoff-Elgin senior, improved three places from the Lower State event as he captured the state title in the 182-pound weight division.Hannah, a senior transfer from Chesterfield High School, was the county’s lone state champion from the six wrestlers which qualified from L-E and North Central high schools.In Friday night’s first match, Hannah was paired with Upper State champion Corey Morgan of South Pointe and came away with a pin with 52 seconds left in the pairing. Hannah then punched his ticket into Saturday’s finals as he defeated Codrian Smalls from Beaufort, 6-4. Hannah them capped his lone season as a Demon with a 47-7 campaign as he scored a 5-1 win over Noah Shuler of Stratford in the finals.The Demons received a second-place finish from senior Allen Jenerette, who won the Lower State crown at 220 pounds.Jenerette pinned Jacob Hines of Dorman in the first minute of their first round match before defeating Josh Driscoll of Nation Ford, 3-2, in the semis to set up a championship bout with Lexington’s Nate Meagher, who finished second behind Jenerette in the Lower State qualifier.
