After having wrestled at 195 pounds for most of the season, Zach Connell wrestled at his more natural 182 pounds once the state individual tournament qualifier rolled around. The move proved to be a sound one as the Lugoff-Elgin senior won the 4A Upper State title at 182 pounds this past weekend in the two-day tournament held at Laurens High School. Connell was third in the 4A state tournament at 189 pounds last year.Connell is now one step away from winning his first state championship medal which would be the eighth for the Connell brothers. Ben, the oldest of the four wrestling Connells, won four consecutive 3A state champions from 1997 through 200.
