There is no quit in Camdens Shawn Elliott as he strives to become USCs head coach

COLUMBIA --- Walking past Mike Matulis, who was laying on a trainer’s table receiving treatment for an injury sustained in South Carolina’s 24-14 loss to Florida last Saturday, interim Gamecocks head coach Shawn Elliott laughed as he, good-naturedly, called out the senior offensive lineman’s name while briefing anybody within hearing distance as to Matulis’s minor ailment. Elliott’s demeanor is hardly that of a person who may or may not be in the final two weeks of his tenure atop the USC football program. Walking through the cavernous underbelly of William-Brice Stadium after having met with the media for his regular Tuesday press conference, you could almost picture the Shawn Elliott of 25 years ago celebrating in the same area of the stadium after Camden High had just won the 1990 AAA state football championship inside the 82,000-seat structure.
