Tides roll in on Post 17ers in 16-7 loss
MIs 11-run 5th helps to even series
POST 17S BLAKE SERPAS crashes into Murrells Inlet catcher Dalton Smith, who held onto the ball and tagged Serpas out on this play from the second inning of Tuesdays state playoff game at American Legion Park.
Game one of Kershaw County’s first round state American Legion playoff series with Murrells Inlet was a crisp, well-played baseball game.Game two? Well, not so much. One night after KC marched out of the Grand Strand with a 2-0 win on Monday, Murrells Inlet found its groove at the plate in cooling off host Post 17, using an 11-run fifth inning to pave the way for a 16-7 win on a steamy Tuesday night at American Legion Park. The victory evened the best-of-five series at one game apiece and, now that both sides have used their top two pitchers, this series promises to get interesting. KC head coach Craig Smith announced Grey Hoke (2-2) as his starter for game three while the Tides are expected to send out a pitcher who was to have been on the mound in game one, only to be sidelined by illness.
