It happens one week each spring when the ping from the metal alloy or, composite bats are replaced by the crack of a wooden bat meeting ball.
Beginning Monday, March 28 and continuing through Thursday, March 31, American Legion Park in Camden will turn back the clock with the return of the eight-team Kershaw-Richland Spring Break Baseball Tournament.
This year, the Kershaw County portion of the tournament will be played at American Legion Park which will also play host to Thursday’s four games and the skills competition --- base running, 4-corners, catcher throw, outfield throw and home run derby --- with players from all eight competing schools taking part in the event.
As has been the case throughout the event’s history, the entire tournament will be played with varsity batters only being allowed to use wooden bats.
The junior varsity portion of the event will have Camden, Lugoff-Elgin, Dreher and Chapin playing in a three-day round robin format.
