If you read Chronicle-Independent sports editor Tom Didato’s report last week about the various events and fundraisers in Kershaw County for jockey Jorge Torres, it’s clear there is widespread compassion and support for the young man whose fate remains hazy. For those unfamiliar with his story, the 26-year-old Torres suffered a fall during last November’s Colonial Cup that has brought his life to a standstill. The head and body injuries Torres sustained led to an infection in his brain, and he remains in critical condition at Palmetto Health Richland.
