Cahn: Weve always been a great nation

I write this not so much in repudiation of Kathleen Parker’s column today -- she makes a number of excellent points, some of which I’ve made in the past, actually -- but more of an answer to her unspoken question: Why don’t we act like we’re a great nation anymore?” I was a huge fan of The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin’s incredibly sharp-witted HBO series about a CNN-type network trying to cover the big national and global news stories. The series opened with one of the most incredible monologues in the history of television: Wil (Jeff Daniels) McAvoy’s “It’s not the greatest country in the world” statement about America.
