Dawn Dawson-House, director of corporate communications for the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, will be the speaker for the second program in the African American Cultural Center’s “Let’s Talk About …” series. The program will be on Saturday, January 19, 2019, from 1:30 until 3 p.m. at the Robert Mills Courthouse, 607 Broad St. The topic of her program is “The Green Book of South Carolina,” the on-line guide to African American cultural sites in South Carolina developed by the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission under the auspices of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. The Green Book project is modeled after “The Negro Motorist Green-Book,” a handbook for travel for African Americans published by Victor Hugo Green and his organization from 1930 until 1966.
